IAME 2011 - Premio Martin Sgut

In recognition of Capt. Martin Sgut the IAME 2011 organising team will reward two papers at this year's conference in Santiago de Chile, October 25th - 28th. One award will be given for the best paper presented on current issues in Latin America and the Caribbean and a second award will be given to the best paper presented in the preconference Iberoamerica Session.
Martin Sgut
Capt. Martin Sgut (1951 - 2010), was a trained naval officer and pilot, dedicated more than 35 years to the development of the maritime and port industry. He worked as Chief of the Departamento Normas in the Capitanía General de Puertos de Argentina and as Capitán del puerto de Buenos Aires.
He served as president of the Mercosur association of ports (MERCOPORT). He worked in various capacities with international agencies such as the Organisation of American States (OAS), the Interamerican Development Bank (IDB), the World Bank, GTZ, the United Nations Commission for Trade and Development (UNCTAD), UNECLAC and the International Labour Organization (ILO) as well as the private sector.
Martin Sgut was involved in more that 230 port development projects in 29 countries of Latin America and the Caribbean, Eastern Europe and Asia.
He was a member of the steering committee of TOC, a judge for theLloyd's List maritime awards, president of the transport committee of the Argentinean Supply Chain Management Association (ARLOG), and member of the AIPPYC (Asociación de Internacional de Profesionales de Puertos y Costas).
Martin's Sgut passion for shipping,port development and logistics in Latin America and the world was unique and his personality and kind and knowledgable manner made him one of the most respected professionals in his field.
